Alex McAulay - Author, Musician - aka Charles Douglas
I was born in Seattle but grew up mostly in Dallas, Texas and Dayton, Ohio. Happily, when I turned 17, I left Dayton and never went back! I ended up going to Brown University, and I'm currently a grad student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Lost Summer is my second novel. I got the idea for it when Lisa and I were on one of our many trips to Ocracoke. Later we took a trip to La Jolla, California, and the whole story came together.
Bad Girls is my first novel. I started writing it a couple winters ago during a freak ice storm in Chapel Hill. We didn't have power for six days, so I couldn't watch DVDs or play video games like I usually do. Instead, we pushed our couch in front of the fireplace and tried to cook hamburgers over the flames. When that didn't work out, I turned to Lord of the Flies for solace and survival advice. It wasn't too helpful, so I ended up writing my own twisted version...
